Frequently Asked Questions: DUI & Related Services

Do I need a DUI Assessment?

You can call the MVD to ask if there is a DUI Assessment requirement attached to your license. If you have already been convicted of a DUI you will definitely need the Assessment.
If the DUI charges were dropped/dismissed, MVD most often still requires the Assessment.

My DUI was pled down to Reckless Driving, do I still need an Assessment?

Yes. If your Reckless Driving charge was pled down from a DUI or the Reckless Driving charge is related to substance use, you need a DUI Assessment.

How long does the DUI Assessment take?

Most assessments take about 30 minutes. More complicated cases may take the full hour.

How soon will I get my results?

The Provider will email you the results within 72 hours.

How will I know what I have to do/what the recommendations are for treatment/education?

The recommendations for education and/or treatment will be listed on your results summary. A list of resources of where you can take the DUI classes and treatment providers will be provided with your results.

What do I need to bring to the appointment?

Your driver’s license number, violation date, and remainder of the service fee owed. The violation date is the specific day you were pulled over/arrested/got into an accident, etc. Completion of the assessment cannot be reported to the MVD without the violation date.

Why do I need to pay a deposit to book an appointment?

A deposit is required to ensure that you show up for the appointment. If you do not show up that is a space that could have been used for someone else. Most DUI Assessment providers require a deposit.

Do I need a Revocation Evaluation or a DUI Assessment or both?

If your license has been revoked due to substance use (not just suspended) you need a Revocation Evaluation. Most individuals that need a Revocation Evaluation need to complete a DUI Assessment before they can schedule the Revocation Evaluation. If you are unsure what is need you can call the MVD.

Will I have to do counseling or take classes after the assessment?

The Assessment determines if you have any problems with substances and to what extent. Minimum requirement is 16 hours of DUI Education. You may also need to complete substance use counseling depending on how severe your problem with substance use.

Why should I choose Vega over other service providers?

Other online providers tend to have a longer waiting list while Vega can usually schedule your appointment within a week. Assessment Provider Erika Keller has been in recovery since January 2018 and understands substance use on a deeper level; she has also been through the DUI process herself and understands the frustrations of the process.

Can I do the recommended substance use counseling with Vega?

Yes, Vega is permitted to accept counseling referrals from DUI Assessments.
